Numbness & Swelling

Numbness and swelling, diagnosed

Persistent numbness, tingling or end-of-day swelling usually has a vascular or nerve origin. We find it, name it, and treat it — often in a single visit.

Numbness & Swelling care at Advanced Medical Group
Overview

Numbness and swelling are clues, not diagnoses

Numbness usually means a nerve isn’t getting enough blood, oxygen or signal — most often from diabetes, PAD, spinal nerve compression, or vitamin deficiency. Swelling usually means fluid isn’t draining well — most often from venous insufficiency, lymphatic issues, heart problems or medication side-effects.

The two are clues that point to a fixable problem somewhere upstream. Our team starts with a thorough vascular and neurological evaluation, runs the targeted tests, and builds a plan that addresses the real cause — not just the symptom.

FAQ

Common questions

Real, specific answers from our team. If your question is not here, our front desk can usually answer it in a 5-minute phone call.

Is one-sided swelling more serious than both legs?

Usually yes. Sudden swelling in one leg can mean a blood clot (DVT) and needs same-day evaluation. Symmetric end-of-day swelling is more often venous or systemic.

Can numbness be reversed?

Often partially or fully — depending on cause. Diabetic neuropathy that’s caught early and managed well frequently improves. Numbness from a compressed nerve usually improves once the pressure is relieved.

Do I really need to wear compression stockings?

For most chronic venous swelling, yes — they’re the single most evidence-backed treatment. We help you find a compression class that’s actually wearable for daily life.

Can I just take a water pill?

Diuretics often help short-term but rarely fix the underlying cause and can have side effects. We aim to identify and treat the source rather than just dehydrate you.

When should I seek urgent care?

New, sudden one-sided swelling — especially with calf pain, redness, or shortness of breath — needs immediate evaluation for DVT. Don’t wait.

Is this all covered by insurance?

Yes — vascular evaluation, ultrasound, and most treatments are covered by Medicare and commercial plans when symptoms are documented. We verify in advance.
